There is no point in having excellent medical research for research’s sake. Just as there is no point in having excellent new treatments for brain disorders without the facilities to make these available to real-life patients. Our goal is to ‘join the dots’ for the benefit of the person who really matters most: the patient.
We are collaborating in and commissioning a number of clinical trials that establish the viability for using CED-delivery to get the right drugs to the right area of the brain with the greatest efficiency. Our work with Parkinson’s Disease and DIPG patients is showing that this delivery system is indeed effective.
We believe CED could hold the key to dealing with a whole range of other serious brain and neurological conditions that have so far been difficult to treat. Conditions such as Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease, Huntington’s and other brain tumours, such as glioblastoma.
We will raise funds to invest in multi-phase clinical trials that will show how appropriate CED is as a drug-delivery method for each condition. But we will also continue to conduct research to identify the optimal drug or cocktail of drugs in the most effective, safe dosage to administer to patients of each condition.
With the right drugs and the right system to administer them, we believe real progress could soon be made to help sufferers from all these conditions, bringing the first real hope to patients across the globe.
Our medical team is already well on its way to establishing the evidence base for CED as a major breakthrough in neurosurgical treatment as a whole. However treatments without the facilities and medical staff to offer them would be at best a job half-done. Our next great challenge will be to open our first treatment and research centre run on a not-for-profit basis that will be the final crucial piece of the jigsaw. We shall be sharing more about our exciting plans for this centre as soon as we’re able.
But we can’t do this alone.
