11-year-old Lilly-Mai Ormrod of Skegness is set to launch her Summer Challenge in memory of her close friend, Keira Wrenn.
Lilly-Mai will take part in two fun runs in North-East England this August in her efforts to raise £1,000 or more. All money will go to towards Funding Neuro’s work with DIPG and other serious neurological conditions.
Lilly-Mai begins her fundraising activity with the Lincoln 5km “Bubble Rush” on Sunday 27 August, where she will be joined by her mother, Lynette.
The event will take place three weeks after the funeral of Keira. The eight-year-old passed away on 2nd August 2017 after a courageous three year battle with Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG).
Lilly-Mai will also run another 5km on the 10 September at the Cleethorpes’ “Colour Fun Run”, followed by a fundraiser day to be held in Skegness. Date and activities to be confirmed.
“Keira would really have appreciated what I am doing as she loves anything bubbly and colourful,” said Lilly-Mai.
Her mother, Lynette, a long-term friend of Keira’s mother, added: “My daughter has inspired the support of our friends, family and local community. When she first came to me and said she wanted to do the runs, I was so proud. Lilly-Mai, through the sadness of losing Keira, has already touched a lot of hearts.”
In support of the Ormrod’s Summer Challenge, Mark Johnstone, Funding Neuro’s UK fundraising manager said: “We are extremely proud of Lilly’s compassion towards the memory of Keira. Her fundraising activity, aside from being a personal challenge outside her comfort zone, will raise vital awareness to current and future generations of DIPG children and their families. Lilly-Mai’s charitable activity fits precisely the ethos of our charity – lots of fun with a big impact on serious illnesses.”
The Funding Neuro Summer Challenge 2017 is open to all ages – from individuals to teams of friends or work colleagues. Take part and find out how your fundraising efforts can be rewarded with a guest table for up to 10 people at our charity’s 10 Year Anniversary Wobbly Prom in September 2017.
